Pu’uhonua O Honaunau is a sacred Sanctuary of reflection, beautiful and calming. Those breaking the kapu laws had to run (or be killed) over lava rocks, and swim in the ocean to safety at this “City of Refuge.” They meditated, purifying themselves, then returned to families and home.
