Near the beginning of the trail through Na Pohaku O Hauwahine one passes several monkey pod trees that seem to overlook Kawainui. On each visit I have been drawn to the sentinel and welcoming presence they provide. Continuing on the less travelled lower trail, the navigation and sharpening stones, and scattered rock formations are revealed.
